This will be 2 days Uganda Gorilla trekking safari escape to the impenetrable jungles of Bwindi starting and returning to Kigali city of Rwanda. Perhaps you have limited time on you but you have way long been yearning for that rare opportunity of coming face to face with the Mountain Gorillas! This 2 day trip is designed to take you to one of the wildest wilderness where half of the world’s only surviving Mountain Gorillas are being sheltered. This will be a short but very rewarding trip.
It will first of all involve a very scenic drive through this land of a thousand hills, to the sights of the terraced hills of Kabale in Uganda and finally to the misty canopies of Bwindi forests. You will do a trek to the Gorillas in the forest and later return to Kigali. Time permitting, a cultural tour to the local communities especially the Batwa Pygmies is an option.
Itinerary for the 2 days Uganda gorilla trekking safari from Kigali, Rwanda
Day 1 – Transfer from Kigali to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Park
Pick up will be from any place in Kigali. It can be at your hotel, the airport or any other place of your preference. Your driver will be on time to start the journey to Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Park and being a great scenic route, stops will be made for some photo moments.
You will finally cross over to Uganda via Cyanika or Katuna border points. Lunch will be at a local restaurant in Kabale or Kisoro and later continue with the drive upto your tracking region of Bwindi forest park. You will arrive late afternoon or in the evening. There is an option of visiting the Batwa people for one of the cultural encounters with the communities living near the park and specifically those (the Batwa) who once shared the forest with the Gorillas. Some interesting stories there!
Day 2 – Gorilla Trekking and Return to Kigali
Here you are, in this morning coldness of Bwindi! A heavy breakfast with hot coffee or tea will warm you up before you set out to meet the rangers at the briefing point. It can be a walk or a drive depending on where you may have stayed. After briefing and allocation of Gorilla groups to the trackers, you are headed for a life time adventure of trekking the Gorillas in a forest that has lived for more than 25000 years. With all the energy geared at reaching the Gorillas, birds and other forest inhabitants will keep ‘diverting’ you as you maneuver through this thick forest. Another interesting part of trekking!
You finally reach the Gorillas, stay an hour with them as you take photos and when it elapses, quietly move out of the forest to leave them to carry on with their day. You will be awarded a certificate for having successfully made it to the Gorillas. Get into your waiting vehicle for your journey back to Kigali. Drop off will be at your preferred place or airport, marking an end to this 2 day memorable visit to the Gorillas in Bwindi forests.
